TWO young apprentices have proved so successful in their health club placements that they have won permanent jobs.
Natalie French, 18, from Stanley, and David Jones, 22, from Durham, made such an impression on their training providers at First 4 Fitness, in Chester-le-Street, that they were offered full time work at the organisation's health club.
Mr Jones is now a full time gym instructor and Ms French takes aerobic and bodytone classes.
The pair were both on modern apprenticeships through the Learning and Skills Council County Durham when they were offered the jobs at the club, based at Durham County Cricket Club's ground.
Janet Reveley, of First 4 Fitness, said: "Both Natalie and David had done so well that we asked them if they were interested in jobs.
"They have fitted in really well and we now have a great team in place here.
"Fitness for children and adults is becoming increasingly important, so well qualified, experienced instructors like David and Natalie have excellent career opportunities."
Ms French had started an A level course but found it did not suit her, and her love of aerobics led her to First 4 Fitness.
Having completed her level 2 in teaching exercise to music, she is working towards her NVQ level 3 in fitness and exercise.
She said: "I'm taking classes for all ages and am aiming to get as many qualifications as I can."
Mr Jones, who was referred to First 4 Fitness by the Job Centre after failing to get the kind of job he wanted said: "I love squash, tennis and football and have always kept fit, so was very enthusiastic about the gym training.
"The modern apprenticeship has been ideal for me as I was paid whilst I trained, it gave me invaluable experience and I was in the right place when a job came along."
