Newton Aycliffe's men were out in force at the Durham Pine NEHL XC at Meadowfield. Emerging from the slow pack came George Reid with a marvelous time of 40:47 to finish in 32nd place and first home for the club. Second home for the club running from the fast pack and regaining fitness came Ian Monkman in a time of 41:01 to finish 212th. Then followed by Brent Morfoot running from the slow pack to finish a fantastic 82nd with a time of 41:32, Colin Gibson running from the fast pack had a tremendous run to finish 225th in a great time of 41:46.
The second NYSD XC at Thirsk saw Newton Aycliffe's Under-17 boys take first place in the team event. Leading the boys out in blistering form was Lewis Moses in first place in a time of 22:23, followed by the vast improving Adam Gibson in a time of 24:00 to clinch fourth place. Adam Harker taking eight place with a massive five-minute improvement from last year's time, again showing why the lads are one of the leading North-East teams.
In the Under-13 boys, James Askew ran an outstanding race to finish 13th in a time of 13:00. The club had one runner in the Under-15 boys age group which was Stephen Turnbull who ran a tremendous race in a great time of 15:22 to grab tenth.
Once again the club showed their strength in the ladies event with five runners taking eighth place overall with Susan Milburn storming home in 16th place with 23:55. She is also lying in second place in the lady vets. Second home for the ladies in an impressive time of 26:29 in 35th place was Rachel Scholey, she was followed by Helen Wright with 51st in 28:21, 52nd Patricia Edwards in 28:24 with Margaret Greenall in 64th place with a time of 30:30. In the senior men's race George Reid flying home to finish 72nd in a fantastic time of 35:33 followed by Michael O'Sullivan having a great run to finish 104th with 37:44 was Kevin Greenall showing good form in 130th place in 40:56.
l If anybody is interested in joining the club Newton Aycliffe hold weekly training sessions on Tuesday evenings at the Oakleaf Sports Complex starting at 6pm, also on a Thursday evening at the Shildon Running Track starting at 6pm. The running club is for all abilities so don't be afraid to give it a go.
Evenwood Runners
Tony Hindmarch brought the club home at the 22nd GNR in an excellent time and position of 1.27.39, 478th with teammate Andrew Laybourn finishing strongly in 1.33.29 for 1,021st position. Darren Fairclough also had a good race for 1.37.50, 1,706th. Steven Coatsworth and Neil Douthwaite both ran in together in 1.42.06, 2,930th and 1.42.07, 2,933rd with a pleased James Sowerby following in for 1.47.07, 4,405th.
Guest runner Darren Million finished with a delighted 1.54.25 in 6,886 following in was Glynn Frith for 2.03.07, 10,585th and Ryan Holdsworth 2.04.50, 11,471st. Dawn Ord and Alan Dickinson enjoyed their tussle to the line for 2.45.58, 28,404th and 2.47.35, 28,756th. Both Donna Douthwaite and Kenny Sams wore fancy dress once again, as Little Red Riding Hood and The Bad Wolf as they were sponsored to raise £500. Both finished well in 2.53.49 30,087 and 2.53.50 30,090. Julie Gallagher was over the moon with her 2.59.04 for 31,076 Gary Atkinson with guest runner Gareth Nelson both also in Cheerleaders fancy dress finished in 3.33.17 for 33,781 and 3.33.18 for 33,783 and £400 richer for their charity. Elaine Smith and Jill Atkinson also guest runners and running for charity crossed the line in 4.07.17, 34,969 and 4.08.02, 34,975 from 49,000 athletes and runners.
