Darlington

It was well worth the walk from Durham City's clubhouse to their Shincliffe playing fields if only to see a pitch in superb condition despite heavy recent rain.

Darlington Under-13s were looking to build on last week's win however their performance was overshadowed by their first ever sin-bin and the referee cutting short the game because he felt the conduct of both sides was inappropriate.

In between these incidents Darlington played some excellent rugby. Durham started well and appeared in control when their full-back kicked long, straight into the arms of Joe Kiberige who pinned his ears back, not for the first time this year, and scored after a 40 yard run up the wing.

The second came after a quick tap following a penalty just outside Durham's 22, Paul Smith this time making it to the corner. Matt Lister added a third just on 15 minutes. Durham were far from giving in and they returned with a try of their own from a scrum ten metres inside their own half. A single missed tackle and poor cover allowed the Durham backs to move across field and then on to the line.

With five minutes left of the first half Elliot Love was sent to the bin and then full-back Matt Lister also had to leave the field, injured after putting in a tremendous tackle stopping his much larger opponent.

Darlington immediately responded with their fourth try, Paul Smith nipping round the narrow side after collecting the ball from a line-out. William Atkinson put in a notable performance playing this time at flanker. The half time score was 5-20.

Darlington started the second half with their best try of the match. The forwards secured clean ball at the scrum ten metres out and stand-in fly-half Richard Leigh twice dummied to excellent decoy runners Kiberige and Moore, wrong footing the Durham defence to score close to the posts. Minutes later Kiberige again found opportunity to run and when given the chance there are few who can catch him and he accelerated away to score Darlington's sixth.

Soon aftrewards the referee asked both coaches to talk to the players following another incident and this appeared to upset Darlington's dominance and Durham responded with two unconverted tries. Before Dexter Bogle replied with Darlington's seventh and final try. Moments later the referee ended the match early with the final score Durham City 15, Darlington 39.
