THREE more youngsters have been involved in hit-and-run accidents only 48 hours after Katie Scales was injured by a motorist who failed to stop at a red light.

All four of the accidents occurred in York, the most recent involving two teenagers who were walking along Toff Green.

Both victims were taken to hospital, one with a suspected broken leg, after they were hit by a car yesterday morning near Toffs nightclub.

Following inquiries at the scene, police stopped and arrested the driver of a silver Ford Focus car.

A nine-year-old girl was slightly hurt on Thursday when a driver reversed into her as she walked to school with a friend in Acomb. The motorist left the scene.

Police are still trying to trace a dark hatchback, believed to be a Fiat Punto, which was involved in an accident on Wednesday night.

The car left the scene in Blossom street, York. Katie Scales, 12, from Haxby, was taken to hospital with multiple fractures and facial injuries.

Constable Richard Gatecliffe said: "The impact was such that the driver must know it happened. Someone must know who the driver was or have strong suspicions.

"Someone came home from York on Wednesday evening with damage to the front of their car, probably on the near-side. They may well have been shaken, or unusually tense, or possibly evasive about what they had been doing."
