TEACHERS at a comprehensive school served up lunches to pupils to help a children's charity.
Paul Harrison, headteacher at Teesdale School, Barnard Castle, his deputies Shaughan Tighe and Janet Linsley, and teachers Peter Elliott and Phil Dukes were sponsored to work as catering assistants alongside school meals company Scolarest's operations manager Yvonne Waugh.
Their efforts helped to raise £871 for ChildLine, which provides a free 24-hour helpline for young people. Pupils joined the fundraising by paying £1 each to take part in a non-uniform day. Catering assistants Melissa Wilkinson and Lorraine McConnell staged a three-hour sponsored silence.
Scolarest is aiming to raise £30,000 for ChildLine over the next 12 months through charity events in schools across the country.
Teesdale catering staff Angela Macdonald, Melissa Wilkinson and Catherine Barron are planning a sponsored parachute jump in March.
