A PLAN to build 215 homes on Harrogate Rugby Union ground at Claro Road has been backed by councillors.
Members of Harrogate Borough Council's district development control committee voted 10-5 to back the scheme which has been called in by deputy prime minister John Prescott because it could conflict with national planning policies.
Relocation of the rugby ground to Moorlands Farm, Killinghall, was considered by a planning committee in April this year when councillors decided they were "not minded to refuse" a new ground.
A public inquiry is to be held into the development and relocation plans next year when a final decision will be made by a government inspector.
