TEENAGER Kate Barker is going to Africa to make television and radio programmes.
The Hartlepool College psychology student, of Ashford Grove, Thornley, County Durham, will be flying to Togo, near Nigeria, next June for three months intensive work experience before going to university.
She will live with an African family, eat local foods and work on films and radio shows for the local people.
Kate, 18, who already has an AVCE in media and an A-level in theatre, said: "It is just something different and it is a chance to see the world and explore different cultures, before I have to study.
"I am most looking forward to working on the television station, doing behind the camera work because I would like to direct documentaries, dramas and comedy."
Kate got involved through Teaching Projects Abroad and hopes her experience will put her in good stead for a place on a media course at John Moores University, in Liverpool, next year.
