THE Belvedere BUPA hospital in Scarborough, which closed in May with the loss of 91 jobs, is to be demolished.
Wilson Construction Services has submitted plans to the borough council to build 19 four-bedroomed terraced houses and flats on the South Cliff site.
A BUPA spokeswoman said that hopes of selling the facility to another hospital operator had come to nothing, and contracts had been exchanged with the development company.
However, Richard Grunwell, chairman of the Scarborough NHS Trust, said three organisations had expressed interest in building private hospital facilities near the General Hospital.
