ANGRY householders living near the site where 120 travellers parked their caravans for last August's Whitby Regatta have been told the travellers will be back next year.
The reason, says Scarborough Borough Council, is because there is no alternative site to the land at Lodge Farm, Whitby, alongside the town's industrial park.
County Councillor Rob Broadley said: "These people should not be welcomed back into the town and if I was living near Lodge Farm I would refuse to pay my council tax. People cannot be expected to put up with this situation. I am backing the objectors 100 per cent."
Steve Oldridge, the borough council's environmental health director, said: "There is no doubt that failure to provide a site will result in serious problems which neither the police nor the council will be able to effectively manage. But the concerns of the local people must be recognised."
The issue is to go before the borough council's public health scrutiny committee.
