A PUBLIC inquiry is to hear appeals against planning refusal to extend work at a quarry which would require a new access road.
The joint hearing will hear appeals by Sherburn Sand Company over proposed amendments to an agreement covering operations at Crime Rigg Quarry, between Sherburn Hill and Shadforth villages, east of Durham.
Sherburn Sand wants to construct a tunnel under the B1283 Durham to Easington road to create a new access.
It would involve diverting a 402m stretch of the Shadforth No 12 bridle path for 28 years and the provision of a new farm access.
The company's plans would allow it to join up separate areas of sand and stone extraction at the quarry.
A Government-appointed inspector will hear the appeals at County Hall, Durham, on Tuesday, January 7, at 10am.
