A SCHOOL sports festival this week aims to promote racial equality.
Eight schools will participate at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on Thursday, in an event hosted by Darlington and Durham County Racial Equality Council.
Schools taking part will be Willington's Parkside School; Durham Gilesgate School; Ferryhill Comprehensive School; King James I Community College in Bishop Auckland; Sedgefield Community College; Woodham Community Technical School; Fyndoune School and Sacriston and Tanfield Comprehensive School.
Each school will enter girls' and boys' teams in a five-a-side football tournament.
As well as the football competition, there will be a focus on equal opportunities and racial harmony.
The event has been endorsed by the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.
