NORTH-EAST fishermen are holding a day-long demonstration on the River Tyne tomorrow to protest about the state of their industry.
The show of solidarity comes as cuts of up to 80 per cent in fishing levels are being called for in an effort to prevent the total collapse of fishing grounds.
The North-East Fishermen's Action Group claims British fishermen are being driven off the seas to make room for others.
They fear the cutback could still destroy what is left of the fleet that operates from the region's coastal ports.
A spokesman for the group said: "The blame lies not with the EU Commission, or with Spain, but our elected Westminster Parliament.
"It is they who gave away a vital national interest belonging to the British people by an Act of Parliament, which all EU treaties work through."
