PROTESTORS held a demonstration outside a Darlington sports shop yesterday to oppose the sale of coats trimmed with raccoon fur.

People Against the Fur Trade (Paft) supporters waved banners and placards outside all:sports in Northgate, Darlington.

The chain of sports shops is selling parker jackets with raccoon fur-trimmed hoods as well as synthetic fur hoods.

Paft is opposed to the farming of raccoons as well as wild animals being caught by traps, which they claim can be dangerous to humans.

Fur farming and trapping are both banned in Britain and Paft wants all:sports to stop selling the coats.

Diane Sanderson from Paft, said: "Regardless of whether they are trapped or farmed, the suffering of fur-bearing animals is immense and entirely unjustified.

"As caring people, we call upon all:sports to discontinue their involvement in the fur trade."

A spokeswoman for all:sports said: "We do try wherever possible to find alternatives to real fur.
