A VILLAGE school has been given top marks by a team of Government inspectors.
The Church of England primary school at South Otterington, near Northallerton, was praised by the Ofsted team, which said pupils of all abilities reached high standards.
Inspectors found that by the end of both key stages, child-ren were well above the national average in maths, English and science.
In their report, the inspectors said the school had developed excellent partnerships with parents and the community, enabling children to make a very positive and well-structured start to their education.
The team concluded that "South Otterington is a very good school".
Headteacher Colin Dolman said: "The findings confirm our view that the quality of teaching and learning in the school is very good, and that the close relationship built between pupils, staff, parents and governors has been recognised and praised.
"We are delighted to have received such a positive accolade from the Ofsted team."
Work has now started on a new classroom at the school, to provide much-needed accommodation.
