A FRANTIC mother called the fire brigade when her 18-month-old daughter became trapped in her car.

Rehana Ashal contacted firefighters yesterday lunch-time, after she inadvertently locked her daughter in her car when she visited a doctor's surgery in Myton Road, Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton.

After repeated failed attempts to get into the car for more than an hour, a desperate Mrs Ashal called the fire brigade for help.

Within minutes they broke into the car and reunited mother and child.

Gordon Hobbs, Thornaby's station officer, said: "It was pretty cold in the car and the child may have begun to feel it. She had been locked in the car for more than an hour and had been awake throughout.

"I think the mother had been for a doctor's appointment and locked both sets of keys in the car by mistake. Thankfully, it took us no time to get in."

The child was unhurt in the incident.
