Enterprising youngsters have been taking their first steps up the business ladder.
With Christmas just around the corner, entrepreneurs between the ages of 15 and 19 gathered at Durham Town Hall for a trade fair organised by Young Enterprise and supported by the County Durham Business and Learning Partnership.
Representatives from more than 30 fledgling companies - each run by a board of directors studying for GCSE or A-levels - offered a range of products from glassware to ceramic Christmas tree pots.
The companies were formed earlier this year as part of the Young Enterprise Business project, and for many this was a first opportunity to test the market.
Ferryhill Creations, a glassware company set up by sixth- formers Raymond Sawyer and Michelle Norris, from Ferryhill School, was one of the organisations. Its colourful range of vases and wine glasses proved popular. Raymond and Michelle were Inspired by business and IT teacher, Susan Harrison.
Raymond said: "We're both business studies students and this is a great way to practise what we're taught in lessons. With only two people in the team it is hard work, but we do get the opportunity to experience all aspects of running a business from dealing with the finances to painting and designing the glasses."
