CHRISTMAS has arrived at the former home and surgery of Britain's most famous vet.
In keeping with the nostalgic air of the whole James Herriot phenomenon, the emphasis for the celebrations is firmly on the past.
The old surgery in Kirkgate, Thirsk, is now the home of the World of James Herriot centre and is one of the leading attractions in the Hambleton district. Now, it has been bedecked with Yuletide decorations - all in the style of the 1950s. Paper chains festoon the rooms along with holly, ivy and the traditional tree.
To tempt the taste buds, the kitchen table is laid out with the preparations for a sumptuous festive tea, with mince pieces and the beginning of a Christmas cake and plum pudding.
This Saturday, youngsters from Thirsk Community Primary School choir will entertain visitors at 1.30pm and there will be story-telling at 2.30pm. On Sunday, it is the turn of Thirsk Secondary School Band to provide some of the entertainment.
* The centre is running a two-for-the-price-of-one admission offer through its website at www.worldofjamesherriot.org.
