Harrogate and

District Union

Harrogate Golf Club was the venue for the fifth winter alliance of the season. With early morning rain conditions were far from ideal. But as the day went on and the sight of blue skies the day turned out to be quite pleasant.

With a total of 56 pairs playing, and for the first time this season the pairing of John Robinson and Alistair Davidson from the host club proved that local knowledge was an advantage. With only two points separating the top six places, it was left to a card playoff to separate the minor places.

With a notable absentee in the likes of the competition secretary Tom Burns, who is not well at the present, his expertise were surly mist in sorting out the minor places. Our best wishes go to Tom for a speedy recovery from all involved in the organization and players alike.

Results - winners: John Robinson (11) and Alistair Davidson (8) Harrogate 41 points, runners-up: John Davies (9) and Graham Lonsdale (9) Ripon City 40 points; 3rd John Hammond (Sen) and Chris Scott (5) Ilkley 39 points; 4th Chris Hughes (3) and Oliver Shaw (4) Ilkley 39 points; 5th Graham Reed (15) and Don Cornish (16) Knaresborough 39 points; 6th Thomson Brown (10) and John Shaw (11) Bedale 39 points; Sixth Alliance at Otley Golf Club on January 29.
