DRAMA students from Prior Pursglove College, Guisborough, are this week performing the musical, Poppy, at the campus' redesigned theatre.
The musical explores Victorian values, hypocrisy, racism, drug dealing and sexual repression in the Far East, said teacher Nick Thorne.
It was written by Peter Nichols, who also wrote the recent West End theatre hit, A Day in The Death of Joe Egg.
The production, which runs until tomorrow, is the first large-scale musical to be staged at the college since a new raked seating arrangement was installed.
Up to 170 people can watch each performance.
Ticket details from the college on (01287) 280800.
