TWO talented teenagers have pitched their musical skills against young theatre organists from across the country.
Mark Thompson, 16, and Tom Atkinson, 13, who regularly practice on a Wurlitzer organ in Howden-le-Wear, saw off stiff competition in The London and South of England Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society's Young Theatre Organist of the Year, in which Mark, from Crawcrook, finished as champion.
Mark, who thrilled audiences with his rendition of Welcome To Hollywood, was presented with the champion's chain and a medal.
Tom, from Howden-le-Wear, was presented with the runners-up medal.
Mark, who practices two hours a day, said he was thrilled to win the contest and would eventually like to be a concert organist.
Tom, who has been playing for four years hopes to go on to win the title next year.
