The Mowden Park thirds faced Thirsk firsts and eight minutes into the game Andrew Tonkin burst through a gap in the Aycliffe defence, sprinting 20 metres on a very wet and heavy pitch before giving a well-timed pass to Dave Liddle to score under the post.
The next 15 minutes saw some good rugby from both sides, considering the conditions, with Aycliffe's efforts being rewarded as their winger set off on a 30 metre run after intercepting a
pass to go over Mowden's line. A good kick from Stuart Edwardson at the restart saw the Mowden pack tackle the catcher who was then penalised for not releasing the ball, Neil Fuller took a quick tap catching Aycliffe on the backfoot and drove over to score. Three minutes later Fuller chipped the ball down field, Gary Liddel chased the ball scooped it up and sprinted over 25m to put the ball under the posts, Martin Curle converted.
Two minutes into the half, DMP continued with Alan Evans sprinting three quarters of the pitch to score another try, again Curle converted. Five minutes later saw hooker, Simon Kershaw, bust over the line after some good third phase ball. Fuller, then rounded of the afternoon with a good individual try. The final score was Darlington Mowden park thirds 34, Aycliffe firsts 5.
