Darlington GSYB

Barnard Castle held firm against early Darlington pressure and found themselves 1-0 up when Young Boys failed to clear their lines. Darlington levelled through Mark Cubitt, only for sloppy defending to allow Barnard Castle a second.

After the break Grammar returned to their teamwork ethics, but again conceded a goal through lack of concentration. However, the final 20 minutes saw Darlington camped in Barny's half and two goals from John McKie and one from Andrew Caldwell earned all three points on a day when The Young Boys were not at their best. Man of the match was Jonathan Farnish.

Darlington 21st Allstars

Waterlogged pitches have seriously affected the games played this week, but the difficult conditions did not deter the Under-15s, who were away to Levenside in the TJFA Challenge Cup. A fantastic hat-trick by Darryl Roberts and individual goals by Sams and Reeves resulted in a well-deserved 5-2 victory. Darlington Mount Pleasant Rangers

The bad weather conditions of late caused many of Mount Pleasant's games to be called off however, the following games were played.

The Under-12s B team played at Bedale and struggled to get into the game from the start with the final score being 7-0 to the hosts. Rangers man of the match was Karl Harrison.

The Under-8s A team played away in the league to Greatham and on a very cold and bleak day did very well, playing some good football. The score ended 2-0 to Greatham with Rangers man of the match being Joe Williamson.

The B team played a friendly against the same team and lost 4-1. Rangers scorer was Stephen Richardson.

Darlington Spraire Lads

This week the weather once again decimated the Spraire programme of games. At Under-16 Spraire put their indifferent league form behind them to progress to the Durham Cup quarter finals. Playing against Leven, Spraire posted their intentions in the opening minutes as Grant rattled the cross bar but continual pressure paid off when he coolly slotted home for Spraire's first. The second had an element of luck when Duffs corner was bundled in by Grant.

Just before half time Leven got one back to set up the second half. However in the second half Spraire took up where they left off when Duffy fired home Spraire's third. Leven then reminded Spraire they were not out of it when they broke after a Spraire corner forcing James to make a good save. In the dying minutes Spraire put the tie beyond doubt when Shield seized on a mix up in the Leven defence and scored.

At Under-15 the B team continued their promotion hopes with a 6-1 victory over William Newton. In a good performance the goals came from Moscrop, McDonald (2), and a hat-trick from Oliver.

At Under-10 Spraire won 7-0 against Stockton Rangers. A great team performance was capped with goals from Kneeshaw (2), Wade Gilbert and four for man of the match, Dale Johnston. Special praise for defender Richard Sanderson who was outstanding.

In a closely contested match, the Under-13s ran out 4-2 winners against Barnard Castle. Although Spraire Lads went into a 3-0 lead by half time through goals from Joe Clamp (2) and Michael Burton, Barnard Castle were never out of the game and pulled the score back to 3-2 in the second half. Chris Tingate settled matters with the fourth goal, converting a corner by Sam Wootten.

Spraire Lasses, at Under-12 played in the semi final of the league cup against a strong Sunderland side, losing 6-1.

Sunderland opened the scoring in just under nine minutes with a neatly taken shot, beating Spraire player of the match, keeper Katie McTague. No sooner had Spraire kicked of from the centre spot had Jordan Atkinson equalised with a low drive into the corner of goal.

Spraire had to absorb some heavy pressure from Sunderland with Tanya Shires and Laura Spence having to stand firm in defence, forcing the Sunderland attack to drive the ball wide of goal. Sunderland looked threatening throughout the game and took the score to 2-1 in the 31st minute. Laura Gowling, Helen McTague and team captain Rachel McKnight all came close to levelling the score before another quick break from Sunderland gave them a commanding 3-1 lead. Substitutes Joanne Wray, Keeley Edwards and new team member Joanna Dinsdale worked well in midfield but Sunderland stood their ground with some strong defending. The Darlingon supporters thought Laura Gowling had pulled a goal back in the third quarter but the ball had just missed the target hitting the side netting. The game was made safe for Sunderland with a goal in the 51st minute, the 4-1 scorline not doing justice for the effort and determination of the Spraire Lasses. Sunderland ended the afternoon comfortable 6-1 winners with goals in the 54th and 56th minutes and now meet either Marton or Boldon in the Final.

At Under-14 Spraire lasses lost 5-1 to Newcastle.
