A MAYORESS has thrown down a Boxing Day dip challenge to the mayor.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's mayor Coun Eric Jackson is willing to take up mayoress Coun Brenda Foster's challenge - but only if she takes the plunge too.
The civic pair want to guarantee sponsorship from friends and businesses in aid of the mayor's charity fund.
Coun Foster said: "There must be an easier way of raising money. But if we can have giggle and get people sponsoring us, then we'll have a go."
Coun Jackson said: "I'm not sure if this will be the wisest decision I've made this year. I've known Brenda for a lot of years now, but never thought we'd both be silly, or brave, enough to go for the dip."
The dip, which takes place at 11am, is organised by the Middlesbrough Teesside Lions Club. Funds raised will go to various charities.
