POLICE yesterday demonstrated the intensive security measures which are to be installed at a North-East airport in the wake of international terrorist attacks.
High-visibility patrols are being carried out at Teesside Airport, with specially-trained dogs also being sent on to aircraft to check for explosives.
The joint operation, run by Durham and Cleveland Police, is in line with national policy to enhance anti-terrorist procedures at ports and airports across the country.
As well as the increased presence in both arrival and departure areas, more plain-clothed officers will be working behind the scenes to gather intelligence and check passenger and cargo manifests.
Airport commercial manager Richard Whitehouse said: "The safety and security of the airport's passengers, staff and partner organisations is of paramount importance to us."
