RESIDENTS are being urged to lock themselves in while at home following a series of sneak-in burglaries.
Police officers are examining a number of incidents which have occurred over the last few weeks where thieves have entered houses in the Sowerby and Thirsk areas of North Yorkshire, and stolen handbags, purses and cash.
PC Phil Bird said: "In most of these cases, someone is at home at the time and simply does not realise a crime is taking place.
"Our message is quite simple - if you do not want to become another statistic, lock all windows and doors, even if you are at home. These thieves are sneaky and while they appear to be operating around the Sowerby area, they could strike anywhere."
