THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised by readers of The Northern Echo to help breast cancer victims.
More than £4,000 was raised at The Northern Echo fashion show, held at Tall Trees Hotel, Yarm, Teesside, in October.
The event, which featured models who had survived breast cancer, raised funds for the Breast Cancer Care charity.
Peter Barron, editor of The Northern Echo, presented a cheque of the proceeds to nurse Sue Brodhurst, of Breast Cancer Care.
Money was raised through an auction of goods donated by local businesses.
Justin Dukes, of Sol Mar properties, in Priestgate, Darlington, donated a week's holiday in a five-bedroom villa in Spain as a prize. It was secured by Julie Watson, of Darlington, who offered the highest bid of £1,250.
Julie, a fashion manager at Binns, Darlington said: "I was feeling a bit daring on the night. I decided to bid for the holiday because it was for a good cause. I will be going to Spain in April. There will be ten of us and we are all really looking forward to it."
