THE Theatre Royal, in Newcastle, is celebrating a successful year.
The venue averaged 6,602 customers a week over the year, presented 352 performances and filled 67 per cent of its seats - eight per cent more than the national average.
Membership of the Theatre Royal Friends increased by 20 per cent, and among those joining were 17 businesses as corporate members.
Income was up on the previous year, and it maintained its ratio of 87 per cent earned income and 13 per cent publicly funded income.
General manager Peter Sarah said: "We have had a very successful year from an artistic, financial and community involvement viewpoint.
"We are delighted and grateful for the support from our audiences and the business community.
"We are now looking forward to next season's fantastic programme, including the Lyric Hammersmith's first visit with Camille, starring Daniella Nardini, and home-grown comedian Ross Noble playing two nights.
"The season demonstrates how we see the Theatre Royal continuing to grow, welcoming more and more North-East people to enjoy some of the best theatre available."
