A FINE art and antiques auction that netted £580,000 was last night hailed a success.
The four-day auction at Anderson and Garland, in Newcastle, featured 2,500 lots, including a painting by Victorian artist Atkinson Grimshaw, which sold for £149,000.
The work of North-East artists featured prominently, including a painting of workmen on a roof in Spennymoor, County Durham, by Norman Cornish, which fetched £3,000.
