A SURPRISE discovery has unearthed a fascinating picture of people more than 2,000 years ago.
A standard archaeological search carried out on the site of a George Wimpey estate being built off Dixon's Bank, Marton, Middlesbrough, has revealed remains of Iron Age roundhouses and pottery imported from Europe.
It is hoped that as more implements are recovered from the dig, a detailed picture of what life was like in Iron Age times will emerge, allowing archaeologists to determine what Teessiders ate and drank, how they lived, and how their society functioned.
Rodger Brassington, sales and marketing director with George Wimpey North, said: "I'm sure there will be a lot of interest in the site. It's not often that new home buyers can trace their property's history back to biblical times."
