CHILDREN are serving up treats for people less well off this Christmas.
Youngsters in 11 primary and secondary schools across Middlesbrough have filled 400 hampers for families and young people who have recently left care and will be on their own this Christmas.
The project began when Pat MacBride spoke to the secretary of an unemployed action group and heard about the difficulties unemployed families face each Christmas.
She pledged to do something to help and the school where she then taught, Newlands Catholic School, Middlesbrough, helped 25 families have a brighter Christmas that year with seasonal hampers.
Fifteen years later, youngsters at Newlands Catholic School have filled 120 hampers with more coming from other schools taking part.
