Pendle Hill, who made The Bajan Bandit pull out all the stops at Carlisle last time, can go one better in the nitex.co.uk Novices Chase over two and a half miles at Newcastle this afternoon.

Peter Beaumont's seven-year-old had obviously come on a fair bit from his chasing debut - his first run after a long break - at Kelso and on both outings over fences he has impressed with his safe and economical jumping.

There's almost certainly better to come from the grey and he can make the most of the weight he receives from Mary Reveley's Man Murphy, who carries a triple penalty for his three wins over fences.

However, Mrs Reveley can dominate the rest of the card and she has prospects of a three-timer with Tees Components (2.25), Santa Cruz (12.55) and June's River (3.25).

Useful Flat performer Tees Components didn't come off the bridle to beat a previous dual winner over three miles at this course last time and he has the pace to be as effective over the shorter trip of the Nitex Computer Fairs Novices Hurdle.

Santa Cruz is a consistent sort who has been entered on a very favourable looking mark and is very much the one to beat in the nitex.co.uk Claiming Hurdle over two and a half miles.

And June's River, although quirky, is likely to get the strong pace he needs and he can successfully negotiate a step-down in trip in the Nitex Computer Fairs Handicap Chase over two miles.

Bella Beguine, who is taking a step-up in class, is worth siding with in the Littlewoods Bet Direct Handicap over six furlongs on the Fibresand at Wolverhampton.

Alan Bailey's three-year-old has been in good form and will be suited by the return to this trip after not lasting home over seven furlongs at this course on her most recent outing.

Her ability to race up with the pace should stand her in good stead given the way this track has been riding, and, although taking on stronger opposition, she is one of the few in this field open to any improvement.

Richard Hannon's Fast Track, who landed a bit of a touch at this course last week, can follow up in the Littlewoods Bet Direct AW Jockeys Championship Handicap over the extended nine furlongs.

Over this course and distance after a break last week, and on his first run for his new yard, he made short work of some exposed rivals and it may well be a similar story this time with only a 6lb penalty to carry.

Raise A Melody is interesting in the Littlewoods Bet Direct On 0800 329393 Handicap but the vote goes to the unexposed Young Collier, who is making his handicap debut.

The three-year-old has admittedly shown precious little at up to 1m in three runs but, given that he is in very good hands and is bred to relish this trip, he looks well worth the chance today.

Singularity, who couldn't dominate last time, is down to this more suitable grade and gets the vote in the Bet In Running Sky Page 293 Seller over six furlongs.

* Today's meeting at Plumpton has been abandoned following an 11am inspection yesterday. With more heavy rain forecast the course was already waterlogged.
