SHOPPERS got into the Christmas spirit this weekend and helped raise money and gifts for The Giving Tree appeal.
A family fun day was held at the new Matalan store in Darlington in aid of the appeal, which is being backed by The Northern Echo.
As well as enjoying the attractions, shoppers were asked to help the appeal by buying an extra gift for a child in need.
The presents collected during the appeal will be distributed by Darlington Borough Council to vulnerable families and youngsters in the town.
Gifts can still be handed in at The Northern Echo head office, in Priestgate, Darlington, Alpha Radio, in Woodland Road, Asda, in Whinbush Way, and Matalan, in Neasham Road.
