CARMEL Technology College, in Darlington, is planning to build two blocks and modify the car park.

An application for a two-storey technology block to its west side and a single-storey assembly hall and sports changing block to its east, have been received by Darlington Borough Council. Concerns have been raised over the plans by residents in nearby St Hild Close, Barrett Road and Clare Avenue.

BRIDGE DAY: A bridge competition will be taking place at the St George Bridge Centre, Darlington, on Friday, December 27. There will be 24 boards of duplicate bridge played from 11am and lunch will be provided. For tickets, which are £6, call (01325) 360340. Proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Relief.

MARDI PLAN: The owner of the Mardi Gras club, in Darlington, has applied for permission to make alterations to the outside of the club. Springwood Leisure has asked Darlington Borough Council for permission to change the look of the club, in Gladstone Street. A decision will be made in the New Year.

LIONS' GIFT: Darlington Lions Club has donated £500 to the Dash children's scheme. Dash provides after-school and holiday play schemes for children, especially those with disabilities. The scheme had been facing closure because of a lack of funding and increased costs. MP Alan Milburn stepped in and helped to secure funding.

BRASS CASH: Darlington Youth Brass Band raised £136 when they hosted a musical evening in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. Carol Oliver, of the charity, thanked the band for their donation, which will help with the care of cancer patients in the North-East.

TYRES SLASHED: Tyres were slashed on vehicles in Warburton Close, Swan Walk, Lumley Close, Bury Road, Oakfield, Winterburn Place, Ladybower and Hedley Close, in Newton Aycliffe, on Friday night.

BENCHES DESTROYED: Two benches, valued at £260 each, were destroyed in an arson attack at St Joseph's Primary School, Garburn Place, Newton Aycliffe, between 8pm and 8.30pm on Friday.

CONCERT NIGHT: A carol concert will take place tonight, at Elm Ridge Methodist Church, in Darlington. The concert starts at 7.15pm at the church, in Carmel Road South.

CHOIR PRACTICE: St James Church choir will meet on Wednesday for rehearsals. The choir will meet for Mass at 6.45pm and then practice.
