A man plunged 30ft to his death when he appeared to fall off a raised roadway on to a disused nightclub car park.
Witnesses told police the man fell from the road above the carpark for the now derelict K2 club in Queensway, Billingham, on Saturday night. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death at about 7pm, but they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. TEAM QUEST: Groups of 13 to 16-year-olds are needed to take part in the annual Kielder Challenge. Each team of eight, which must include four youngsters with disabilities, will be tested in a series of mental and physical challenges as they compete for the Kielder Challenge cup. DOG CHIPS: The National Canine Defence League has joined forces with Pets at Home to offer dog owners a special deal. Those who go the store on certain days, can have dogs microchipped for £9.50, while pensioners or those on benefits can get the chip free. The service is available from 10am to 4pm at the shop in Teesside Park Drive, Stockton, today and at the store at Darlington Retail Park, Yarm Road in Darlington, tomorrow.
PAINTING COURSE: Places are still available for a course in art appreciation being run next year. The How to Look at Paintings course is being run by the Darlington Workers' Educational Association. BUS STOPS: A Barnard Castle firm has made more than 700 new bus stop signs for Darlington Borough Council. Sign and graphic maker William Smith produced the signs which, for the first time, show bus numbers, telephone numbers, e-mail details, local information and bus logos. The signs will be installed in the coming weeks.
KIND-HEARTED: A survey has shown that people in the North-East spend more on Christmas than anywhere else in the country. Most of the money goes on toys and games with the least on food and drink. The survey also revealed that people in the region spend an average of £306 during Christmas on new clothes.
CHARITY HELP: A guide to trusts which give donations to voluntary and community groups in the North-East has been published. The guide contains more than 100 trusts which have funds to support groups in the region.
