CHILDREN are doing their bit for the environment by adding greenery to their village.
Pupils from Albany Village, near Washington, have helped plant shrubs and a flowering cherry tree in the centre of their village as part of an environmental project with Sunderland Housing Group.
The environmental works by the housing group are being carried out in addition to about £9m which has already been spent on rejuvenating the village.
Paul Saggers, head of technical services for the Washington Housing Company said: "The staff have enjoyed, working with the children. We feel it is important for them to have respect and a sense of pride in their neighbourhood and they certainly seem to be proud of their achievements.
