SOME of the most familiar faces at a North Yorkshire hotel will be missing following the retirement of three waitresses.

Phyllis Pattison, Eileen Carpenter and Barbara Theobald have clocked up more than 100 years of service between them at the Crown Hotel, in Helmsley.

Mrs Pattison said: "It will be strange not going to work. After all, there is always company to talk to there.

"Nothing much has changed about the job since I joined in 1960 and the people are just as friendly. Many of them have been coming for years themselves."

The three waitresses were taken out for a meal to thank them for their work and given either a necklace or a watch as a memento.
