REVELLERS are being reminded that their old Christmas trees can be put to good use instead of simply being thrown out with the rubbish.
Hambleton District Council, in North Yorkshire, is creating recycling points across their area for the unwanted trees.
In an effort to encourage people to use them they are holding a free draw with prizes including a wind-up torch and wind-up radio and a Patagonia fleece jacket made from recycled plastic bottles.
Christmas trees that are brought for recycling will be shredded and made into compost which will be used locally.
Anyone who takes their old tree to a recycling point from today to January 12 will be given a voucher for the prize draw.
