TWO North-East students are to represent the UK in an international construction competition.
Lee Fawcett and Karl Smith will be the flag-bearers for their country and Darlington College of Technology when they compete in the International Skill Olympics, this year and next year respectively.
Lee had to beat his best friend and fellow Darlington college student, Simon Dale, to win the right to take part in next year's Skill Olympics, in Switzerland.
Lee, 20, of Leyburn, North Yorkshire, works for his father's company, while Simon, also 20, lives in Northallerton and works for Walter Thompson.
David Walker, Darlington college's construction department programme leader, said: "Lee and Simon have both been very good students and it shows the high calibre of teaching we can provide at the college."
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Karl, a student cabinetmaker in Darlington, won a silver medal in the competition. Karl, who works for Phillip Bastow & Son, in Reeth, Swaledale, will now compete in the 2004 Skill Olympics
