YOUNGSTERS will be able to see their artwork on display at a new play area after they won a competition.
Sunderland Housing Group and Sure Start organised a Name the New Play Area competition for a £40,000 facility created by the housing group in Albany Village, Washington.
It followed modernisation and environmental projects costing £8m.
More than 300 local children were asked to think of a name for the play area and paint or draw a picture of it.
Albany Village Primary School pupils Eryn Prudhoe, Zack Jones and Yasmin Stringer were named winners, with Yasmin's entry scooping first prize.
The winning pictures will now be reproduced and fixed on the site, while the winners will have the originals presented to them in frames.
Yasmin's suggestion of The Duke's New Look, after a nearby pub, has been adopted as the play area's name.
Ian Porter, local company director for the housing group, said: "The playground is for the children, so we wanted them to be involved as much as possible in its creation.
"They are certainly very enthusiastic about the whole thing."
The playground is equipped with swings, a roundabout and a slide for younger children, as well as a kick-about area for older ones.
