POLICE are renewing their appeal for information following a suspected arson attack at a family home.
The incident happened at Frederick Street South, Meadowfield, near Durham, at about 1.20am on New Year's Day, as a 16-year-old girl was looking after her younger sister and brother while their mother, Val Atess, celebrated the New Year with neighbours.
A fire broke out at the rear of the house and spread to an adjacent car, believed to belong to the the Atess family. Firefighters rescued the 16-year-old from a first floor window and she was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Her brother and sister suffered minor injuries.
A 15-year-old local youth was arrested on New Year's Day on suspicion of arson and theft, but has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Detectives appealed to anyone who was in the area between midnight and 2am on New Year's Day, to call 0191-386 4222.
