EXPERIMENTAL parking restrictions may be introduced in a Northallerton street.
In a move expected to be approved by North Yorkshire County Council on Tuesday, the authority intends to introduce the restrictions, along with a residents' parking scheme, in L'Espec Street, a cul-de-sac near County Hall.
Most of the houses in the street have no off-street parking and, after being lobbied by residents, the county council has accepted that most of the cars parked there during the day belong to shoppers and staff at County Hall.
Under a scheme to be introduced for 18 months, there would be no waiting at any time around properties with driveways and the access to the magistrates' court. In the rest of the street, parking would be limited to 30 minutes.
Residents could apply for a parking permit, without restrictions, for an annual £10 fee but no dedicated parking bays would be created. Permits would not be issued for visitors.
A county council spokes-man said the scheme would be monitored and changes brought in if necessary.
