A GANG of 30 youths attacked a man in the street and stabbed him eight times during the New Year celebrations.
Police said that the victim was assaulted shortly after he left a pub in York at about 12.30am on New Year's Day.
As the man walked home with his brother, they met a youth and two females near a BP petrol station in Boroughbridge Road.
There was a disagreement between the two groups and the man walked off along Cranbrook Road, Acomb.
He was then approached by a group of up to 30 youths on bicycles and attacked. He suffered six stab wounds to his back, one to his left ear and one to his left arm, and was taken to York District Hospital.
Police described his injuries as minor and he was released later that day.
One of the youths from the initial disagreement was said to be tall and thin, aged about 16, with short, dark hair. He was wearing a beige jumper with stripes down the arms.
