A PROPOSED new police divisional headquarters will combine brick, glass and steel, but the complex designed for east Cleveland will also signal the end of a television series' set.
The new district headquarters building has been earmarked for the Kirkleatham Business Park, on the edge of Redcar.
Under a scheme that will see new police headquarters in Middlesbrough and community police stations opened in Redcar and South Bank, near Middlesbrough, Redcar's present police station will be shut.
The cells beneath the station have changed little since 1900, when they were built, and they proved a dream for the producers of the ITV1 drama, Heartbeat, which is set on the North York Moors.
Project manager Dave Kirk, who is co-ordinating the scheme, said: "It is a little bit of history that will be lost, but this development will create police stations fit for the 21st Century."
