A BRIDE and groom returned from their wedding reception to discover their home had been ransacked by burglars.
Rie and Colin Hargreaves had to make the heartbreaking decision to cancel their honeymoon to sort out the mess the thieves left behind.
Cash, credit cards, a digital camera, musical equipment and tools were taken from their ground-floor flat in the Groves area of York.
The cost of replacing the stolen property and damage after the raid on Saturday evening came to about £1,200.
Mr Hargreaves said: "My wife was very upset, and now she does not like being left alone in here, even though I have installed a burglar alarm and panic button, and replaced the locks."
He said he and Mrs Hargreaves had cancelled their honeymoon in the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District after the burglary happened and have spent the past few days cleaning up the flat.
Mr Hargreaves appealed to anyone who saw anyone entering the property, or behaving suspiciously in the area, to phone PC Rachael Thewlis on (01904) 631321.
He is offering a reward of £100 to anyone who can provide information leading to the conviction of the offender.
