VILLAGERS in Hinderwell, near Whitby, have set themselves the challenge of raising £500,000 to build a village hall.
Resident Anthea Ellis said it was difficult to comply with health and safety regulations in the 70-year-old timber building.
She said: "We desperately need a new hall. It is doubtful the existing one will last five years."
Approval for a new hall has been given by the North York Moors National Park Authority and fundraising events are planned, in addition to grants being sought.
