A NEW public transport pass designed for schoolchildren is on sale now.
The Nexus School Pass is a pre-pay travel pass suitable for use on all modes of public transport throughout Tyne and Wear.
It allows parents and carers of children to pay for their child's travel to and from school in advance and avoid the daily scramble for change.
It means that children can use public transport without the need to buy a ticket before boarding.
The School Pass can be used on the Metro, Shields Ferry, all buses and all Arriva Trains Northern services between Sunderland and Blaydon.
It will be valid for journeys to and from school within a specified time limit.
Application forms, which must be completed and returned with a colour passport photograph and the fee, are available from Nexus Travel-shops.
The pass will cost £80 and be valid for the remaining two terms of the academic year to July 31.
In some cases the Nexus School Pass may be available free. Parents and guardians are advised to contact their Local Education Authority to check whether their child is eligible.
