PROPOSALS to replace some of the worst housing in a North-East city with a modern development are to be considered by councillors next week.
Plans to demolish properties in West Benwell and Lowe Delaval, in Newcastle, are to be presented to councillors as part of Newcastle City Council's Going for Growth regeneration strategy.
A household survey and inspections of properties in both areas has concluded they are largely unwanted and in very poor condition.
Council leader Tony Flynn said the council's cabinet would consider a report on Wednesday, along with alternative proposals put forward by West Benwell residents.
He said: "It is clear from condition surveys that the properties are among the least desirable in the West End.
"We will therefore consider the plan to demolish the housing to pave the way for an exciting new development that will put Newcastle on the international stage."
