Sunderland Catholic Club Over-40s League
The weather played havoc last weekend with the cup and league fixtures and no games were playing owing to the weather.
With half the league programme being almost completed both the promotion and relegation situation is beginning to take shape.
In the premier a good case for the championship can be made out for five teams, the present leaders Ferryhill Greyhound and second placed Steels SC with games in hand, Killingworth Arms, a highly dangerous side from Northumberland, last season's champions Billingham Wanderers and the Villa Real Cup winners Owton Manor from Hartlepool. It is definitely a case of any one from five as they all have to play each other and anything is liable to happen. As for relegation last season's promoted teams all occupy the bottom three places and a complete reversal of their previous form is needed to escape the dreaded drop.
In division one Wallsend RAOB, Blackhall Hardwick and Marden are the obvious choices with Darlington Croft, Newton Aycliffe and Wallsend Rising Sun still having chances as three sides are promoted. Relegation concerns the Barnes Hotel and Willow Pond another side, but three or four wins can make a great difference to all the clubs concerned so both promotion and relegation remains an open issue.
Division two sees Hartlepool Catholic Club in a good position as they already have 39 points in the bag and the others have still to win their games to reach that total. Who goes up with Pools at least sevemn clubs are still concerned and relegation looks very difficult to forecast.
Division three sees both leaders Wynyard Vets and Hylton Castle having excellent chances for the first two places, but the third spot is still very open and despite looking good matches can be lost or drawn and a points lead can easily be frittered away which then makes forecasting difficult.
Relegation is another matter Durham C Strollers are on the crest of a wave having won three games in a row to move out of the bottom three and look good to progress further.
Hartlepool RNC may have turned the corner, they won 5-3 away to the leaders Wynyard Vets and if their form continues the club up the league is assured. Steels FC are a much better side than their league position suggests, the goals 20 for and 23 against shows it is lack of goals being scored which is their problem rather than a defensive one. Roker Queen Vic, although bottom, have games in hand and can therefore rectify their position in the near future.
In division four Oddies the leaders as yet unbeaten look odds on certainties for promotion, but who will be the other two teams concerned? There are at least eight who could be considered and even others if they were to have a long winning run. The other clubs enjoy playing footbal for the fitness, social and enjoyment side of and see a win or even a draw as an added bonus.
The Halfway House won their first game after 15 matches and everyone celebrated Wynyard Old Boys with more 50-year-old than 40s enjoy each game. Winstons, Taylors, the Sportmans Arms, these are the lifeblood of the Over-40s league and there are many others who are contributing to the game.

Grangetown YCC 8 v 0 Annandale Hotel
Grangetown dominated for long periods of the only game to survive the bad weather, only good goal keeping from Mark Tucker kept the scores level for the first 20 minutes. Some good work from Scott then set up Millington for Grangetown's first goal. This was quickly followed by an excellent finish from Corner to give Grangetown a two goal advantage at half time. At the start of the second half Annandale began to press forward , Adam Booth going close on two occasions, this only spurred Grangetown into action, Millington scoring his second with a good header from a William's cross. As Annandale tried to push forward in an attempt to get back into the game, Grangetown took advantage as Corner went on to score a further four goals with assists from Scott, Wake, James and Guy. Wake then wrapped up the scoring in the 85th minute. Grangetown taking all three points in a game that was well refereed by Tony Yates in very difficult conditions.
