A CHARITY scheme supporting youngsters who are caring for relatives is appealing for more volunteers.
Derwentside Young Carers project works with children aged up to 17 who are caring for a sick or disabled family member.
It needs volunteers to provide transport and take part in its range of activities, which last year included trips to amusement parks, bowling and swimming.
The children's charity Barnado's runs the project from its Stanley base.
Volunteer co-ordinator Helen Hodder said: "We need volunteers who can befriend the young people, as well as provide extra pairs of eyes and ears - essential when you are out with a group of 20 or 30 youngsters.
"The volunteers are a crucial part of this project. Without them, it would not have been the success it has been."
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to call (01207) 283585.
