PUPILS from two schools in Teesdale are to unveil a sculpture to commemorate the history and wildlife of their community.
Children from Evenwood and Ramshaw primary schools helped local interpreter Lesley Silvera and sculptor Steve Holliday to create the design, which they will unveil on Monday.
The pupils worked with Ms Silvera and Mr Holliday to design the interpretation panel, which will be installed at Evenwood Cemetery and will give visitors information about history and wildlife in upper Teesdale.
To create the sculpture, workshops were held to raise awareness of the local history and the surrounding environment, and schoolchildren also took part in bulb planting schemes in the cemetery to encourage wildlife and insects back to the area.
Evenwood Parish Council worked with Groundwork West Durham to secure funding for the project from the County Durham Foundation.
Teesdale District Council has also donated paving to surround the sculpture.
A Groundwork West Durham spokesman said: "This has been a very successful project and it is great that local schoolchildren have worked with an interpreter and sculptor to create this interpretation panel.
